Crowncraft Leather: Where Tradition Meets Innovation
In September 2020, Godfrey founded Crowncraft Leather, a business dedicated to producing exceptional bespoke leather goods. Named in tribute to his 22 years of crown service, Crowncraft Leather is based in Corby, Northamptonshire, specializing in timeless, handcrafted pieces that embody durability, style, and superior craftsmanship.
His mastery earned him an MBE in 2023, for leadership and services to the military saddlery trade.
In further recognition, in 2021 Godfrey was invited to become a Freeman of The Worshipful Company of Saddlers and opportunity he grasped and continues display his high levels of craftsmanship.
At Crowncraft Leather, excellence meets tradition and that's the standard, and every creation is a testament to Godfrey’s lifelong passion for the traditional art of Saddlery and Leatherworking.
From Soldier to Entrepreneur: A Journey Begins.
Born and raised in Jamaica, Godfrey Morris MBE embarked on a remarkable journey that would see him become a Master Saddler and entrepreneur. Moving to the UK in 2000, he joined the British Army in 2001 and was posted to the prestigious Regiment The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery as a mounted gunner. Here his exposure to equestrian equipment ignited a passion for craftsmanship. Fascinated by the intricate artistry of saddlery, he sought to master the skills that lay behind the leatherwork.
Mastering the Craft: From Apprenticeship to expert Master Saddler.
Godfrey’s dedication led him to the prestigious Millennium Apprenticeship Scheme in 2004, a program developed by The Worshipful Company of Saddlers and The Society of Master Saddlers. Through intensive training, he earned a City & Guilds qualification and honed his expertise in crafting, repairing, and maintaining military saddlery. Over the years, his skills has flourished, and he became a respected Master Saddler, mentor, training apprentices and passing on the traditions of the trade.
